Abstract: Importancia de las proteinas en deportistas

Abstract: Importance of Proteins in Athletes' Nutrition

The importance of proteins in athletes' nutrition stems not only from the need for their increased intake but also from their differentiated consumption based on the type of sport, as well as the quality of the combination of the 20 amino acids that constitute proteins, which play a crucial role in improving performance. Protein requirements are closely linked to the continuous need for tissue repair and renewal post-competition, including muscle mass growth and the repair of micro-injuries caused by exercise. Additionally, proteins contribute significantly to energy production depending on the intensity and duration of the activity, as well as the sex of the participants.

A matter of ongoing discussion in the literature is the MRD (Marginal Recommended Dietary Intake) for proteins, which suggests protein values ranging from 1.2 to 1.8 g/day/kg based on the type of training, as opposed to the 0.8 g/day/kg recommended for sedentary adults.
